ローマ教皇来日

フランシスコ、ローマ教皇が来日。故ヨハネ・パウロ2世以来、38年ぶりです。

Pope Francis has landed in Japan to begin a four-day tour of the country, the first papal visit to the land in nearly four decades.

「ローマ法王」「ローマ教皇」はどちらも使われていますが、今回の訪日に合わせて「教皇」という呼称を使用すると外務省が発表しました。

仏教徒が圧倒的で、クリスチャンは少ないタイと日本を訪問。日本のクリスチャンの割合は0.345%。

Pope Francis returns to Asia on Nov. 19 for a visit to Thailand and Japan, two predominantly Buddhist countries where Christians remain a tiny minority.

According to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Japan, the 440,000 or so registered Catholics here accounted for only 0.345 percent of Japan’s population last year.

The majority of Japanese practice a mixture of Shinto and Buddhism, two closely intertwined faiths based on the worship of nature and spirits, but many in Japan also observe Christian festivals such as Christmas.

長崎は、原爆投下の他、隠れキリシタンでも知られます。

In addition to Nagasaki being one site of only two such nuclear attacks, the city is also a special place for many Catholics, as the area is widely known for its kakure kirishitan, or “hidden Christians,” he descendants of adherents who were persecuted in the early 16th and 17th centuries.

教皇は、長崎のスピーチで核の抑止力の考え方を批判。非人道的な状況下で暮らす人のために資源を使うべきであると語りました。

Japan, the only nation to have ever been attacked with atomic bombs, has called for the eventual elimination of nuclear weapons but still relies on the nuclear umbrella provided by the U.S.

In a long-awaited speech in Nagasaki, Pope Francis on Sunday strongly criticized the concept of nuclear deterrence and warned of arms races while calling on world leaders to instead use money and resources to cope with environmental issues and poverty that affect millions of people worldwide who are “living in inhumane conditions.”

長崎原爆投下直後に撮影された、亡くなった弟を背負い、火葬場=crematoriumに立つ少年の写真。教皇は『戦争の結果』‘Fruit of war'というカードに書き世界に発信をしました。

In January 2018, he showed to reporters a black-and-white photo of a boy in Nagasaki  waiting in line to have his dead little brother, who was strapped to his back, cremated.

長崎、広島の後は、東京に戻られ、ドームでのミサには5万人の信者が参加しました。
